The Post 9/11 GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon

The Post 9/11 GI Bill is an education benefit program for individuals who served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. Students may begin using the benefit for study beginning August 1, 2009.

Under Chapter 33, the benefits you receive are determined by a number of factors, including the length of your qualifying active duty service, the location of your campus, how you take your courses, and your "rate of pursuit." Contact the VA at gibill.va.gov for more information about the program or to determine your eligibility. Please contact us to better understand how your enrollment at Southern Wesleyan University may impact your level of benefits.

Active duty military personnel who are eligible for Chapter 33 benefits and have exhausted all tuition assistance (TA) in a given year may use their VA benefits to cover the cost of tuition and fees. You must notify the Certifying Official of your home campus for any classes you would like certified for VA education benefits.

The Yellow Ribbon Program and Scholarship

Southern Wesleyan University is proud to demonstrate its commitment to our nation's veterans by participating fully in the Yellow Ribbon Program. All veterans eligible for the program (as determined by the VA) will receive a Yellow Ribbon Scholarship. That scholarship, together with matching funds from the VA, will cover all tuition and fee expenses at Southern Wesleyan University that are not covered by your Chapter 33 benefits.

That means that the combination of financial support from Southern Wesleyan University's Yellow Ribbon Scholarship and from the VA will cover the full cost of tuition and fees for Southern Wesleyan University programs.

Southern Wesleyan University's participation in the Yellow Ribbon program is determined annually. Should Southern Wesleyan University cease participation in the Yellow Ribbon program, eligible Veterans will continue to receive other benefits under the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
