Scholarships and Grants

New Scholarships Starting Fall 2015

Church Matching Scholarship - up to $1,000

The Church Matching Scholarship creates an avenue for the local church, in conjunction with SWU, to continue being an active part in the lives of their students. SWU will match up to $1,000 per year ($500 per semester) of a gift given from the student's church or church district. New and returning students are eligible, starting fall 2015. Read more about the Church Matching Scholarship.

 

Palmetto Boys & Girls State Scholarship – $6,000

The Palmetto Boys & Girls State Scholarship of $24,000 ($6,000 per year - up to four years) will be awarded to two students in the incoming freshman class. SWU Fellow recipients are not eligible due to the fact they are receiving a full tuition and room and board award from SWU. Read more about the PBS and PGS Scholarship.

 

Palmetto Boys & Girls State Grant – $1,000

Awarded to students who attended and graduated from Palmetto Boys & Girls State. Students will receive a scholarship of $4,000 ($1,000 per year - up to four years) if they are not awarded the Palmetto Boys & Girls State Scholarship. SWU Fellow recipients are not eligible due to the fact they are receiving a full tuition and room and board award from SWU. Read more about the PBS and PGS Grant.

 

 

SWU Fellow – up to $32,190 (for 2015-16)

Awarded to those South Carolina students designated as a South Carolina Palmetto Fellow. The student’s total financial aid package (to include aid from all sources) covers tuition, fees, room and board (up to the Mullinax Hall double room rate of $32,190). Music fees, lab fees, and the cost of books are not covered. To renew, students must renew the Palmetto Fellow award annually. Read more about the SWU Fellow.

Wesleyan Ministers Dependent Grant – up to $11,510 (for 2015-16)

Dependents of Wesleyan Ministers who are appointed as full-time, active licensed or ordained Wesleyan ministers or career Wesleyan missionaries appointed by Global Partners may be awarded up to 50 percent of tuition. Dependents who qualify for the Presidential Scholarship will be awarded whichever amount is greater. Out-of-state Wesleyan minister dependents who qualify for the $11,000 Presidential Scholarship may receive an additional $3,000 SWU Grant. Read more about the Wesleyan Ministers Dependent Grant.

Presidential Scholarship – $6,500 - $11,000

Awarded to incoming freshmen with a 3.5 or higher high school GPA and a 22 ACT/1000 SAT. To renew, a student must earn an institutional GPA minimum of 3.0. Awards are reviewed annually.

Dean’s Scholarship – $6,500 - $9,000

Awarded to incoming freshmen with a 3.0 or higher high school GPA and a 22 ACT/1000 SAT. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Warrior Grant – $3,000 - $9,000

Awarded to incoming freshmen with a 2.0 or higher high school GPA and a 17 ACT/800 SAT. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA.

Transfer Student Scholarship – $5,000 - $11,000

Transfer students are eligible with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA from all institutions attended. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Transfer Student Grant – $2,000 - $6,000

Transfer students are eligible with a 2.0 cumulative GPA from all institutions attended. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA.

Athletic Grant – Amount Varies

The director of athletics supervises the awarding of grants to students with outstanding ability based on their participation in intercollegiate athletics.

Music Ensemble Scholarship – Amount Varies

The Division of Fine Arts supervises the awarding of scholarships to students based on their ability to participate in music ensembles at Southern Wesleyan University. Music and non-music majors are eligible for this scholarship. Click here to learn more about the scholarship.

Joan and Thomas Phillippe Young Artist Award – up to $1,000

Awarded to the top students who audition for acceptance into the Southern Wesleyan music department. This scholarship is renewable annually to eligible music majors based on continued advancement.  Auditions must be completed by April 20.

Call Me Mister Scholarship – up to $8,000

Awarded to students in teacher education programs who demonstrate a background and desire to work in an underserved, underprivileged or economically disadvantaged area.

Wesleyan Loan/Grant Program – $60 per credit hour

The Wesleyan Church provides loan/grant assistance to junior and senior ministerial students at Wesleyan colleges preparing for ordained ministry. Students must have completed at least one year of study at Southern Wesleyan.

Campus Challenge and Wesleyan Bible Bowl (WBB) – Amount Varies

Winners at the area and national levels of Campus Challenge and WBB competition will be awarded scholarships equal to the amount won during their competition careers, not to exceed direct university costs.
