2014 News Highlights
In 2014 SWU experienced continued growth and expansion. Another student-run business opened and two landmarks were dedicated at the Central campus. A new degree program will prepare a future generation of health care leadership. In athletics, the Warriors began competition in Conference Carolinas of NCAA Division 2.
SWU sets record for incoming students
As of Aug. 21, Southern Wesleyan reported 265 new students and an overall headcount of 685, which includes full-time and part-time students. Last fall, the university started the year with a headcount of 597.

What began as an effort to place flags at Southern Wesleyan University’s new athletic facilities grew into a tribute to those who have served and continue to serve in our military.
Track and field complex dedicated
SWU dedicated the Joe R. Gilbert Track and Field April 9 at its Central campus. The $1.1 million facility, which includes a 400-meter, eight-lane track surrounding the future soccer field, is located near the university’s entrance at S.C. Highway 93.
SWU pilots student run coffeehouse, golf facility

SWU's community service recognized
For the first time in its history, Southern Wesleyan University was awarded a place on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, an honor recognizing the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems while engaging their students in community projects.
Switchfoot in the house
The Grammy Award-winning band Switchfoot played to enthusiastic fans Feb. 23 at Newton Hobson Auditorium on Southern Wesleyan University’s campus in Central.
