Brothers, SWU graduates, in dental practice together

Southern Wesleyan graduates John and Joe Atcheson at their dental offices in Six Mile.

The Atchesons broke ground for Atcheson Dental in 2012. Pictured from left is Sen. Larry Martin, Rep. B.R. Skelton, Six Mile Mayor Roy Stoddard, Renee and John Atcheson, and Elizabeth and Joe Atcheson.

John Atcheson, a 2002 graduate, and Joe Atcheson, a 2006 graduate, came together in August, 2012, and opened their own dental practice in Six Mile, S.C. Atcheson Dental is the rural Upstate community’s only dental practice.

John and Joe both earned their pre medicine/pre dentistry degrees at SWU and earned doctor of dental medicine degrees from The Medical University of South Carolina. After completing dental school, John worked at Keowee Family Dentistry and his brother Joe worked at Oconee Dental Associates, both in Upstate South Carolina. Joe also practiced dentistry at Eastside Family Dental Care in Anderson.

The brothers both serve on Southern Wesleyan’s Board of Visitors and have been consistent donors even during the years they were paying to go to Medical school. Southern Wesleyan’s Alumni Association awarded John and Joe the Professional Excellence Award from the College of Arts and Sciences in 2014.
