Mitchell honored with resolution
Sen. Larry Martin (R-S.C.) introduced a resolution in the senate May 31 honoring the achievements of Dr. Virgil Mitchell and requesting that the Department of Transportation name the Twelve Mile River Bridge located on S.C. Highway 137 between Norris and Liberty the “Dr. Virgil Mitchell Bridge.
Mitchell, a Six Mile Native, was an alumni of SWU when it was known as Wesleyan Methodist College. He went on to serve as general superintendent of The Wesleyan Church and held several key roles in the denomination and at SWU, where he was named Alumnus of the Century. He went home to be with the Lord in October 2006 at age 92.
