Pickens Co. Schools names Beasley Teacher of the year

Sheila Beasley, a 2004 Education graduate was named 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year for the Pickens County School District.

“This award has been a very humbling experience for me, and I owe this recognition to many, many people in my life,” said Beasley, who has taught for 12 years. “Southern Wesleyan University had a huge part in this award because this university is where I received my education in a bachelor of science degree in early childhood and elementary education as well as a masters of education degree.”

“This educational institution has provided me with an education that has prepared me for where I am today. I chose the evening program because I was working during the day and raising two small children at the time,” Beasley continued. “I am grateful for the opportunity Southern Wesleyan University gave me and for the confidence and positive attitude as well. Beginning each class with a devotion was a big plus for me, and it helped me get through the evening with a more positive outlook. The professors were always willing to assist me where needed, too. Again, I am so thankful for this great university. Without it, I would not be where I am today.”
