SWU graduate earns bronze in world championship
World-class athlete grateful for SWU experience
Lindsey Torgerson, a 2009 Southern Wesleyan University business graduate and a member of Team USA, earned a bronze medal Aug. 10 at the ITU World Championship in Ottawa, Canada.
This October, Torgerson will travel to Tucson, Ariz., where she will compete in the USA Duathlon National Championship, a qualifier for the 2014 World competition in Spain.
“I will continue to strive to be my best each and every day. There is no turning back from here,” Torgerson said. “Thank you SWU family for your continual support as I have set off to pursue this amazing opportunity to represent the USA."
While at SWU, Torgerson was a member of the Warriors Women’s Basketball Team when they won the NCCAA championships in 2007. Since graduating, she has competed in several endurance events nationally and internationally, including the Miami Man Half Iron Triathlon, where she won first-place for her age group; the Black Water Duathlon National Championship in Maryland; and the 2012 ITU Long Course Duathlon in Switzerland, where she won a silver medal.
Torgerson currently lives and trains in San Antonio, Tex. and recently landed a sponsorship with Dallas-based 2Quick Carbon Technology. She is a fitness service manager with Gold's Gym International.
Torgerson shared how her endurance of these grueling competitions rests on a simple foundation.
“If you don’t prepare and set realistic goals you’re never going to go anywhere you want to go,” she said. Torgerson is grateful that she has been able to apply what she learned while at Southern Wesleyan – hard work and discipline – as a Warrior. She also learned about priorities and the place God has in her life. She also feels blessed to have the continuing support of family members, including her father, the late Dr. Brian Torgerson; and her mother, Candace Torgerson.
