Symbol of servanthood

Southern Wesleyan University President David Spittal, left, shows Rev. John Croft of Global Partners a towel, embroidered with the university seal. The towels are presented to graduates as a symbol of Christian service.

Croft delivered the baccalaureate sermon Dec. 9 at Newton Hobson Auditorium on the university’s campus in Central. He encouraged the graduates to trust God, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges. “In Christ, you have what it takes and more,” he said. “We are people who believe all things are possible with God.” Croft grew up in the mission field in Suriname, South America, and the Cayman Islands. He is an ordained minister in The Wesleyan Church and served for 10 seasons as the head football coach of the Brno Alligators, a semi-pro football team.
