Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic assistance program designed to increase retention, improve student grades and increase graduation rates. SI accomplishes these goals by helping students learn to solve problems, organize classroom materials, develop effective study strategies and meet personal and faculty expectations.

Here at SWU, Supplemental Instruction is intended to be a semester-long series of weekly group study sessions led by an SI leader. The SI leader is an undergraduate who has successfully completed the course with an "A" average. All SI leaders are recommended by faculty. The SI leader attends the weekly lecture, takes notes, meets with the course instructor regularly, and then holds three study sessions weekly to provide support to students currently enrolled in the course.
