BS in Biology Education

What is the BS in Biology Education?

This degree program is designed for the teacher candidate seeking to obtain certification to teach biology in secondary schools. It is designed to be completed in four years, including a semester of clinical experience. Successful completion of the program and qualifying scores on the examinations leading to certification will ensure certification to teach biology in high school.

What do students enrolled in the BS in Biology Education program do?

As a Biology Education major, you will learn to integrate faith with learning in biology and discuss ethical implications, even at the global level in biology. You will develop competency in cellular biology, molecular biology and genetics, organismal biology, including botany, zoology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology, population biology and ecology. Additionally, you will learn tools utilized in biology, including microscopes and various other types of instruments used in analysis. You will develop competency in knowledge and techniques used in medical technology, as well as the professional knowledge areas prescribed by the state of South Carolina as determined by the Praxis for Principles of Learning and Teaching. You will also complete one semester of clinical experience.
