BS in Special Education

This degree program prepares the undergraduate for PK-12 multi-categorical (mild to moderate disabilities) teaching certification in the areas of emotional disabilities/ behavioral disorders, learning disabilities, mental disabilities, autism, and traumatic brain disorders.

As a Special Education major, you will gain understanding of the effects that an exceptional condition can have on an individual’s learning in school and throughout life and participate in activities that encompass inclusion, resource, and self-contained programs within elementary, middle and high school programs.

You might consider a Special Education major if you plan to work with special needs students, recognize special needs students as unique human beings, understand the similarities and differences between individuals with and without exceptional learning needs, and possess great patience with students having mental or physical disabilities.
