SWU Green is an environmental initiative that encourages the campus and community to make a bigger impact in the world. Now in its third year, SWU Green sponsors several events throughout the year to support environmental awareness and custodial ownership of our corner of the planet. As part of the SWU Green Initiative there are two major events one in the fall and another in the Spring that help us to collectively take care of our campus.
Earth Day: April 2015
Earth Day began through the inspiration of former U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson who wanted to create a “national teach-in on the environment.” Through much work and collaboration on April 22, 1970, more than 20 million Americans participated in rallies across the country devoted to creating a national consciousness about the environment. Today, more than 500 million people in 175 countries celebrate Earth Day.
Here at Southern Wesleyan University, we join with the world to care for our planet. As a community we work together on a grand scale campus beautification project. Last year more than 50 volunteers took 1-2 hours out of their busy schedule to take part in flower planting across campus.
On Wednesday, April 22, 2015, Southern Wesleyan University along with the rest of the world will be celebrating Earth Day. Sign-ups for Earth Day will begin in March. Please check this page for any updates in the spring.
On Earth Day, you can check in at the Earth Day table that will be located in the International Hallway outside of the Campus Bookstore. A member of Sigma Delta will instruct you on where crews are set up at that time.
This event is sponsored by the Order of Sigma Delta.
