Admissions Counselor-Central, SC

The Admissions Counselor serves as a member of Southern Wesleyan University’s traditional program admissions team and is responsible for the recruitment of first year and transfer students. The position, which reports directly to the Director of Admissions, is responsible for the duties and functions specified and otherwise assigned.  Admissions Counselors are responsible for the achievement of assigned recruitment goals in a manner that supports the enrollment goals of the university. Position is available immediately.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serves as the primary recruitment representative for assigned first year freshmen and transfer students.
  2. Responsible for the achievement of goals related to net tuition, academic qualifications and the recruitment of students annually.
  3. Responsible for the management of assigned off campus geographic areas with travel required to regional areas annually for college fairs, church events and recruitment activities.
  4. Supervises and is responsible for a new student prospect pool of approximately 1,500 prospective students and manages approximately 300 accepted applications.
  5. Organizes and conducts on campus individual visits and conducts group campus visits.
  6. Works closely with Assistant Director of Admissions to coordinate regularly scheduled visit days and open houses.
  7. Responsible for having a working knowledge of all applicable student aid regulations; serves as the family’s representative to the Office of Financial Aid at the time of application and throughout the enrollment process.
  8. Works with the Office of Financial Aid to confirm that assigned students have received all information concerning federal, state and private financial aid options.
  9. Responsible for meeting weekly call goals with evening phone calls throughout the recruitment cycle focused on conversion of prospective students to application status, with subsequent calls to focus on specific enrollment requirements and processes.  
  10. Maintains strict adherence with NCAA Division II rules and regulations relating to the conduct and administration of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A bachelor’s degree is required with prior experience in marketing, sales or recruitment preferred. A background in higher education is preferred.  
  2. Must possess demonstrated management skills.
  3. This position requires the team member to function at a high level of organized proficiency and handle multiple, essential tasks simultaneously.
  4. Strong communications skills and relational abilities are essential.
  5. Must be a goal oriented self-starter with the ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently.
  6. SWU is committed to maximizing the use of technology in its daily operations and in achieving its strategic goals; the ideal candidate will be familiar with integrated database management systems, including reporting, and have a high comfort level with web-based, mobile and PC applications including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  7. Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  8. Must be willing and able to travel within the Southeastern U.S.; a clean driving record is required.

  2. Physical/Environmental Requirements. Visual acuity necessary to do editorial work, proof documents, and manage files. Ability to sit for periods of time in an interior office environment. May require infrequent lifting objects up to 10 pounds, and occasionally items up to 20 pounds. May require employee to infrequently work outside of regular work schedule for special events.
  3. Pre-employment Screening. Employment is contingent on the completion a background screening.
