Located on Southern Wesleyan University's main campus in Central, South Carolina, Eagles Rest Bed and Breakfast (Eagles Rest) has four private guest suites on the first floor and living quarters on the second floor for the resident manager. It accommodates a variety of guests and groups throughout the year including: university VIPs; other campus visitors (including prospective students and families); wedding parties; retreats; small groups; and special meetings and events. Eagles Rest is a University Auxiliary enterprise and, as such, it complements the mission of the university while endeavoring to return a positive financial result.
In exchange for managing the facility, hosting guests and housekeeping, the Manager will receive a housing package which includes a full floor of partially furnished personal living quarters (loft living room/den, separate bedroom and full bath). Other amenities include utilities (electricity, cable, Wi-Fi Internet, telephone), partial use of the garage, and use of full kitchen and laundry. The university will also provide maintenance and grounds keeping.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Greeting and checking in guests.
- On-site management of the entire facility.
- General cleaning and preparation of guest rooms and common areas; laundry.
- Tracking reservations as they are assigned by Conference Services
- Preparing continental breakfast each morning (when there are guests).
- Purchasing and managing inventory of supplies and groceries.
- Supervision and scheduling of work-study students assigned to the facility to assist with housekeeping. Students will each work 5½ hours a week from August to May (fall and spring semesters).
- Collecting payments, filing monthly reports, and other duties as assigned through Conference Services.
- Assistance with marketing efforts related to the facility.
Requirements

A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Supervision experience is required.
- The ideal candidate will be creative and customer service-oriented, possess the gifts of hospitality and service, and be flexible to accommodate changes in the schedules of the guests.
- Familiarity with SWU—its history, mission and purpose, campus offices, faculty and staff—is a distinct advantage. It is essential that the Manager demonstrate the following: excellent communications skills; exceptional interpersonal skills; trustworthiness, integrity, discretion and good judgment; organizational skills and attention to detail; self-motivation; and the ability to work with minimal supervision or instruction.

- Physical/Environmental Requirements. The Manager must be willing to work a flexible schedule based on guest and event schedules. The physical requirements of this position require frequent lifting of objects up to 10 pounds, and occasionally items up to 20 pounds. Visual acuity for working on a desktop or laptop is necessary.
- Pre-employment Screening. Employment is contingent on the completion a criminal background screening and credit check.
Other Information
This is an unpaid position in exchange for the amenities detailed above; no other benefits are available. This is a 12-month position; hours vary depending on guest/event schedule, but it is assumed the Manager will be present (on-site) during each evening there are guests staying at the facility. The Manager will work with the Director of Conference Services to schedule breaks and other absences. Living quarters will not accommodate children or pets, and the facility is an alcohol- and tobacco-free facility.
