PROFILE:

Born and raised on a tobacco farm in Jessamine County, Ky., Dr. Keith East played baseball in high school, for the American Legion, and three years in the Stan Musial Semi-Pro League. While serving as a graduate assistant under Dr. Bill Berge in Eastern Kentucky’s Oral History Center, East assisted in the recording, editing and indexing of the taped memoirs of Malcolm Kilduff, assistant press secretary to presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson (Kilduff was in the third car behind Kennedy in Dallas. If you look closely at the picture of LBJ being sworn in on Air Force 1, it is Kilduff's hand holding the dictaphone). East married his college sweetheart, Bonnie Cleasby, and moved to the Upstate of South Carolina in 1978 after completing an MEd at EKU. He served in the Greenville County Schools as a high school teacher, coach and administrator until 2006.
